Mashing up data - to fight crime

Step aside superman, the data scientists in our e-Business Labs have been using publicly available big data on reported car thefts in South America, combined with geo-location mapping and a sprinkling of Artificial Intelligence to pinpoint clusters of risk and guide predictive direction to areas of interest for law enforcement.

By judicious use of Rest API, Watson AI, and a few customised Open Source algorithms, our lab teams are taking advantage of existing protocols to understand which models and make of car are most at risk of theft, and where and when crimes are most likely to occur.

Our insight can assist insurers to fairly price policies commensurate with real risk, aid police and investigative powers with practical, actionable information, and empower consumers with knowledge to focus on security, risk mitigation, and prevention.

Although our work in this area is still nascent, our ambitions are great. In keeping with our values, we look forward to continuing to find ways to apply new technologies that truly benefit the societies in which we live.
